:h1.Directions for using the DAZZLE demo program
:p.This program is intended as a demo of the VGA and MCGA type graphic
adapters for both PS/2 and Family 1 machines.
Essentially, the demo makes use of palette register animation and graphic
rendering to show off these features of the VGA/MCGA (hereafter refered
to simply as the VGA)&gml.
:ul
:li.Wide varieties of colors
:li.Wide range of color (eg. many shades of a single color)
:li.High speed graphics capability
:eul
:p.The program makes use of the 256 simultaneous color mode (320x200
resolution) to accomplish this.
It randomly generates sequences of colors from the full 256,000 color
palette of the VGA, and displays 256 colors from this palette
simultaneously.
:p.OK, so how to use it?
To run the DAZZLE program in its default demo mode, (and for the
impatient people who want to run it immediately), just type this
command&gml.
:xmp
DAZZLE
:exmp
:pc.This will first display the title screen.
Once the title screen has been fully drawn and has started color
cycling, press any key to enter the free running demo mode itself.
:p.While the program is running, these keys are always active&gml.
:dl tsize=7
:dt.A
:dd.Toggles :hp1.A:ehp1.utomode.
Automode is by default initially ON, and will cause the shapes drawn on
the screen to randomly change.
If you turn it OFF by pressing :hp2.A:ehp2., the program will draw with
the same shape until you change it.
:dt.C
:dd.Toggles :hp1.C:ehp1.olor cycling.
The default is ON, for continuous color cycling.
Turning it off will freeze the display with the current palette static.
:dt.D
:dd.Toggles :hp1.D:ehp1.rawing.
The default is ON, for continuous drawing.
Turning it off will stop drawing on the screen, but continue color
cycling, slightly faster than before.
:dt.SPACE
:dd.This will randomly select a new shape to draw, regardless of
Automode.
Since the new shape is totally random, it may not always be different
from the old one.
:dt.ESC
:dd.This terminates the program and returns to DOS.
:edl
:p.You can skip the title screen and go directly to demo mode by
typing at least two characters after the DAZZLE command when you
start the program.
A good suggestion is DAZZLE followed by two spaces.
:p.You can also force DAZZLE to startup drawing a specific shape with
Automode turned off, if you like one of the specific shapes.
To do this, specify a single digit on the command line after the DAZZLE
command.
These digits are&gml.
:ol
:li.Triangles
:li.Rectangles
:li.Circles
:eol
:p.For example, to skip the title screen and startup with only triangles
being drawn, issue this command&gml.
:xmp
DAZZLE 1
:exmp
:p.Once you've started up in this manner, you can still toggle automode
back on by pressing :hp1.A:ehp1..
:p.If you have any comments or suggestions for the program, please send
them to me, Dan Butterfield, at VMID DANIEL at MSNVM2, or tieline
8/641-4533.
Also, please feel free to contribute to the DAZZLE FORUM on IBMPC.
:p.DAZZLE was developed entirely on my own time, but was tested on IBM
equipment.
As such, it is considered IBM INTERNAL USE ONLY.
